LEADING BY EXAMPLE BY WALKING 1100 KM COMPLETELY ALONE TO RAISE MONEY FOR DISADVANTAGED KIDS IN CANADA

Bart Zych, a Vancouver based leadership trainer & a Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce Director will walk from Hope BC to Calgary AB aiming to raise $50,000 for the Children’s Aid Foundation. This registered charity helps underprivileged and neglected kids in Canada find a positive path in life.

He departs on June 17th. Bart will walk alone, unaided, without a support vehicle or even an RV to sleep in. He expects to walk about 30 km per day, for a total of 50 days on the road, and a distance of 1100 km, sleeping under the stars.

Bart credits his own personal trauma with his drive to help kids overcome their obstacles. “In the spring of 2012, I broke my knee (patella) so severely that the surgeon didn’t think that he would be able to reconstruct it. Lucky for me he did. My walk is symbolic of perseverance and overcoming adversity – to prove to myself that I can do it, and if I can, others can too” says Bart.

But the most important reason for his project, he says, is to combat violence by and against kids and youths, such as that which led to Amanda Todd’s suicide in October 2012.
