2014 MEDIA RELEASE – 100km Under 24 Hrs Fundraising Walk in Vancouver

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

100 KM UNDER 24 HRS WALK IN VANCOUVER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR DISADVANTAGED KIDS IN CANADA

Bart Zych, a Vancouver based business trainer and instructor, together with supporters will be walking 100 km under 24 hours through Vancouver and Richmond, starting Saturday, September 13th at 5am at English Bay Beach in Vancouver, to raise money for the Children’s Aid Foundation. This registered charity helps underprivileged and neglected kids in Canada find a positive path in life.

In 2013 Bart walked 1100 km in six weeks from Hope BC to Calgary AB and raised over $5500 for the Children’s Aid Foundation, which in BC supports the Pacific Community Resources Society (Vancouver), the Richmond Youth Services Agency, the Langley Community Services, the North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society, and the Penticton & District Community Resources Society.

Bart chose to raise money for the Children’s Aid Foundation because he believes that not enough is being done to equip disadvantaged kids with the tools and skills they need to become productive members of our communities, especially in BC, which has the highest rate of child poverty in Canada.

Due to a broken knee resulting in reconstructive surgery Bart walks rather than runs. “My walking symbolizes overcoming obstacles and achieving goals with the resources you have. Walking 1100 km over 6 weeks required a different strategy and mindset compared to walking 100 km in under 24 hours. To me, the difference is the same as planning for and achieving long term goals compared to short term goals, and all kids need to learn to do both.”

Marcus Loos, a professional soccer player from Brazil has committed to join Bart in completing the entire 100 km walk, with many others to join at different stages for various distances.
